AMBUSH®: Spring 2023 Pre-Collection

The Korean-American fashion designer of Ambush®, Yoon Anh, has set the bar high with her newest SS23 pre-collection. The energetic spirit of her adopted home Tokyo is a nod to her newest collection. As a whole, the electric array of her designs explores new silhouettes and looks back to the signature pieces of the fashion house.

The paroxysms of eclecticism and malleability hint at the universal beauty of the roomy silhouettes. Most of the designs are unisex and can be worn by anyone. The loose fit of the tracksuit jackets and trousers is also reimagined in denim. They are paired  with bodices in the same colour.

The long-sleeved shirts with nostalgic prints are an homage to 90s rave and house culture in Shibuya, which is widely known for its reputation as the epicentre for followers of rave music. Unisex cargo trousers and down jackets encapsulate the practical rave look, while the blazers in the collection are their classier counterpart. The tailored blazers can be worn with miniskirts, trousers, or loose denim. Again, furthering Yoon’s love for juxtaposition of distortion of traditional silhouettes. The adjustable nature of the collection is not simply evident in the fabrics, but also in the zeitgeist of Yono’s designs.

Accessories, made in Japan, loom large in the collection. No different from other collections, the SS23 collection features huge ball chain chokers, heart padlocks, and leather chokers. The Ambush® graphic logo is reinterpreted as a charm necklace and signet rings. With the rave spirit imbued in many of the designs, it is by far the heart bags that reflect the materiality and essence of rave culture. The bags come in black bondage leather, pink, and denim. As usual, the AMBUSH® ‘’A’’ makes an appearance too. It is turned into an evening bag with a silver chain, all in line with the collection’s fundamental, yet functional rave spirit.
