Tomer Capone — Like a Rolling Stone
From the political thriller ‘Fauna’ to Amazon’s fan-favorite The Boys, Tomer Capone is one of Israel’s contemporary faces. His first stage debut was in Natalie Portman’s A Tale of Love and Darkness. Since then, Capone’s stellar performances on screen have catapulted him into the ranks of acting. We have spoken to him about the latest season of The Boys, his latest project Slingshot, and the wonders of the universe.

SID: Spoilers aside, what can we expect from Frenchie in Season 3 of Amazon’s The Boys ?
TC: I don’t even know how to start answering this question as this season is by far the craziest one we’ve filmed. It starts at breakneck speed and never lets go of the gas pedal. That said, the characters are still evolving with new revelations, and are shaped by surprising twists and turns in the story. I think it will surprise fans a lot. You are not ready for this. Mark my words.
SID: Do you prefer portraying the vigilante over a superhero?
TC: I mean, I couldn’t ask for a better vigilante than my punk Frenchie, as playing him is pure freedom and fun. Not sure about a superhero, I’ve got to admit that the douchebag Superhero from ‘The Boys’ kind of takes the excitement out of those spandex-wearing celebrities. I know it’s going to be fun acting, but the Frenchie in me just can’t wrap his head around it.
SID: Tell us about your latest project Slingshot? Given the movie’s focus on Sci-Fi, were there any specific rules you followed to bring the script to life?
TC: ‘Slingshot’ is realistic, yet futuristic. It is a thriller about an astronaut’s mission to Titan, one of Saturn’s moons out there in space that, in reality, is known for having a dense atmosphere and liquid water. However, something goes wrong, and the mission is compromised. Laurence Fishburne, Casey Affleck, and I are the mission astronauts. Working with them was a real learning experience, as Mikael Håfström also directed us.
In the short time I had for preparation, I was watching every space documentary I could find. In the movie, I play ‘Nash’ who is a wicked smart guy who went to Caltech University, and knows and talks about things that were complete gibberish to me. I sat down with an astronomer who was kind enough to help me with the information in the script till I finally understood what the hell I was talking about — things like gravity induces an orbits rotation. Then, I did the NASA virtual reality thing and worked with an insightful movement teacher to try to figure out how it might all feel in the body when going on such a profound mission. The preparation is still around as I’m finding myself continually interested in new discoveries out there.
SID: Are you a sci-fi fan, and if you could live on any given planet, which planet would you choose?
TC: I do love sci-fi and think it’s the most exciting genre. As for other planets, after going deep into understanding the Beyond, the wonder is here, especially today, but we must not take it for granted and take care of it. That said, I’ll stay here on planet Earth, but minus the greed and pointless violence.
SID: If your next project was based on a sci-fi novel or game, what would it be?
TC: Haruki Murakami’s Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. And, I would love to play Bob Dylan - yes, he is in there.
Reboots: Back to the Future, Starship Troopers, Mario Brothers, and so many more that make me smile.
X-Men: My favorite sci-fi comic of all time, and it would be a dream to play around as a mutant.
SID: What do you think is the most rewarding aspect of being an actor?
TC: The most rewarding aspect is the fact that your repertoire is shaped by your imagination. Then you meet other imaginative minds of the arts, and acquire additional inspiration for the road. And, I guess the one aspect that is both a blessing and a curse is traveling all around.
SID: To wrap it up, what do you think SID stands for?
TC: I heard SID-live is the newest brightest shiny lifestyle star in the cosmos for young consciousness — told you, I’m hooked on space these days!
